Feb 24, 2026 – BetterSea is proud to announce that seven recognitions have been awarded to our team in the Top 100 Women in Shipping 2025, published in the 7th edition of All About Shipping’s prestigious annual rankings. This year’s edition gathered global industry votes and introduced 19 specialist categories, highlighting women making measurable impact across maritime sectors.

Gordana Ilic Ranked 9th Overall in the Top 100

Our Co-Founder and Co-CEO, Dr. Gordana Ilic, has been ranked 9th overall among the Top 100 Women in Shipping worldwide, a significant recognition of her leadership in driving digital and green transformation in maritime.

In addition to her overall ranking, Gordana placed in the Top 5 in five specialised categories:

  • Entrepreneurship: 2nd place

  • Environment: 3rd place

  • Technology & IT: 3rd place

  • Maritime Marketing & Communications: 4th place

  • Emerging Young Leaders under 40: 5th place

Being recognised across such a diverse range of categories reflects the multidisciplinary nature of modern maritime leadership and innovation:  where environmental stewardship, technology innovation, entrepreneurship, and communication intersect. These distinctions also underscore BetterSea’s mission of enabling shipping companies to navigate regulatory complexity and commercialise decarbonisation through digital intelligence.

Katerina (Aikaterini) Stergiou Ranked 4th in Legal Category

In the Legal category, our Head of Legal and Compliance, Katerina Stergiou, was ranked 4th Top Woman in Shipping. In less than a year at BetterSea, Katerina has become widely recognised for her expertise on regulatory frameworks, particularly FuelEU Maritime compliance. Her work supporting shipowners and operators in understanding and operationalising new EU climate regulations has positioned her among leading legal voices in the industry.

This recognition highlights the growing importance of regulatory clarity as maritime transitions into a more structured decarbonisation era and the role BetterSea has played in championing streamlined FuelEU Maritime Compliance for the industry.

Advancing Representation in Maritime

The maritime industry remains significantly underrepresented by women, who account for roughly 1% of the global shipping workforce at sea. Initiatives such as the Top 100 Women in Shipping spotlight the professionals reshaping the sector through leadership, technical expertise, and innovation.

BetterSea is proud to see its team contributing to this shift through measurable impact in compliance, digital transformation, as well as thought leadership. Platforms such as our The Wavemakers Podcast are an additional way to bridge the diversity gap by spotlighting leaders across geographies, nationalities and genders.

Gratitude to Our Ecosystem

We also extend congratulations to all women recognised in this year’s Top 100! These recognitions are not achieved in isolation, it required collective effort, and this acknowledgment belongs to the broader BetterSea ecosystem. We thank our team, customers, and partners for their trust, collaboration, and support.
